A Way In The Wilderness

God will make a way even where there seems to be no way.

"I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert." Isaiah 43:19

February 15, 2021: God’s not finished yet. (Part 1)

Deuteronomy 31:8 “…he will not fail thee, neither forsake thee: fear not, neither be dismayed.”

It’s been a challenging year, hasn’t it? So challenging, in fact, that most of us have had to adjust to a new “normal.” Pandemics, masks, not eating in restaurants or doing the things we used to take for granted.

Although some people are still meeting for corporate worship, the majority of us are not. Many of us have become used to, if not comfortable with, this new “normal,” and isolation has been equated with safety.

However, God created us to be social beings, and that isolation comes with a price. The U.S. Census has recently reported that a third of Americans are struggling with depression and anxiety. When you throw the 2020-2021 politics into the equation, we end up with a lot of anger in the mix. And, for some, total discouragement and even hopelessness.

What’s going on? Has God forgotten us? Has He forgotten me?

That was the mindset of the God’s children during the Babylonian captivity. The temple had been destroyed by Nebuchadnezzar, and he had placed the gold and silver instruments in the temple of his gods. The Israelites were sure they had been cast aside, that God had forgotten them and His promises to them.

But now there was a new king, Cyrus of Persia, and God used him to fulfill His promises to His children. In the first year of Cyrus’s reign, “God stirred up the spirit of Cyrus, king of Persia.” (Ezra 1:1) God had a plan, and He was going to use Cyrus to accomplish it.

It’s important to note that it was God’s will for Cyrus to be king, and it was also His will to use this pagan leader to accomplish His plan. He didn’t give them a godly Israelite king. Remember they’d already tried that route, and it didn’t exactly work for their benefit.

So, what was the plan, and how would God accomplish it?

Challenge for Today: What might happen if we, just for today, remembered God doesn’t make mistakes?
