God will make a way
even where there seems to be no way.
"I will even make a way in the wilderness,
and rivers in the desert."

It’s Not About Me - Part One.

Colossians 1:16
“…all things were created by him, and for him.”
|
I was that obnoxious kid who
always had to know, “Why?” I wasn’t satisfied with the
rule unless I could understand the purpose or reason
behind it. It needed it to make sense. And I haven’t
changed one bit. I still feel like I need to understand
the reason, the purpose for everything.
So, when I begin to think about putting God first, the
first thing that comes to mind, even before the “How?”
is, “Why?” Why is putting God first in my life so
important? I mean besides the fact that we are commanded
to in Exodus 20:3.
Rick Warren begins his book, The Purpose Driven Life, by
saying, "It's not about you." And that may be the most
powerful truth I’ve ever heard. It’s not about you. It’s
not about me. God had a plan and a purpose when He
created us. We were created by Him, but we were also
created for Him (Isaiah 43:21).
God’s plan for us has always been that we would have
fellowship with Him…a close and intimate fellowship. His
plan too has always been that we would praise and honor
Him and give Him first place in our lives.
Because God knew our sin would disrupt that fellowship,
He also had a plan in place to deal with it. By sending
His own Son to pay for our sins, He again gave us access
to Himself.
My niece Hilary has gone through more than a month of a
serious health crisis. During that time, she died and
was brought back, was intubated and sedated and has
undergone four surgeries. She’s not out of the woods yet
and will undergo another surgery tomorrow.
This morning, she said, “My job here’s not done yet.” I
don’t know if she realizes it, but she’s never said a
truer thing in her life.
The only way my life…your life…will make sense is if we
realize it isn’t about us. It’s about a sovereign God
who created us and has a specific plan and purpose for
our lives. And that purpose will be accomplished,
whether through our obedience or our disobedience. It’s
not about me.
Challenge for Today: What might happen if we
realize God has a purpose and a plan for us?
